JEVS Human Services and our career school, Orleans Technical College, held a Building & Construction Trades Hiring Fair in partnership with the City of Philadelphia and PHDC on September 15, 2022, to connect employers with jobseekers in various disciplines within the industry. We had more than 100 contractors, developers, utilities and service companies attend (including SEPTA, PECO, City of Philadelphia, Horizon Services, and Marriott), providing hiring managers and business owners the venue to conduct on-the-spot interviews, collect résumés, and discuss opportunities in their growing workplaces.
The Hiring Fair is a testament to collaboration—education, government and private sectors working together to get individuals into viable careers and become productive members of the workforce. More than 225 jobseekers were on-site at the event, including current Orleans Tech students and graduates, young adults participating in the JEVS Project WOW program, clients from the PA CareerLink operated by JEVS, and students from neighboring Swenson Arts & Tech High School.
Our President & CEO, Cynthia Figueroa, hosted a press conference during the event, which included Mayor Jim Kenney; PHDC President & CEO Dave Thomas; and Heloise Jettison, Deputy Commerce Director, Chief of Staff, of the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department. Matthew Breen from Clark Roofing Co. and Michael Ingram from Ingram’s Plumbing & Heating also spoke, reflecting on their relationship with JEVS/Orleans in hiring graduates upon completion from their trades training.
Located in Northeast Philly, Orleans Technical College is JEVS’s flagship CTE school (career & technical education), training nearly 250 students each year in a variety of hands-on skilled trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC) and have relationships with employers to hire our qualified graduates. Orleans Tech is committed to ensuring its career training programs align with industry standards, focus on skill attainment, and offer industry-recognized credentials.
